We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation.

For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

- II Peter 1:19-21

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

Hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son.

- Hebrews 1:1-2a

If a person believes that God spoke to him in a dream, but the instruction in his dream contradicts the teachings of the Bible, which is he to believe and obey? Why?

Can you give an Old Testament example of God's revealing His Word through a dream, vision, angelic appearance, divine appearance, direct communication, casting of a lot, and use of the Urim and Thummim?

God revealed His Word both in language and in Person. What is meant by this statement?

Since the Scriptures have been completed, God does not reveal new truths. His written Word is His complete revelation to man. Since the completion of the Bible, God's normal manner of working is to reveal Himself and His truths through the means of His Word. If God should speak through a vision or dream today, the lesson taught would illustrate and agree with the truths revealed in Scripture. God will not reveal additional or different truths from those proclaimed in His eternal Word.

God's special revelation may be spoken of in two ways:

1. Learning the truths of God's Word in our minds.

2. Learning the truths of God's Word in our hearts through personal application by the Holy Spirit.

To hear the gospel message, or possess a copy of the Bible is a great privilege. We are not better than many others who have never heard God's Word; God has graciously given us this priceless gift. Without His Word, we cannot properly know or worship God. Only through the Bible can we hear the call of the gospel, the message of salvation in Jesus Christ for lost sinners.

The great value of possessing a Bible is illustrated in the following stories:

Moon Pyung Chan was a young Korean boy who longed to have a Bible, but his parents were too poor to buy one for him. Moon was very sad about this.

One day at church Moon's pastor said, "The 'Biblemen' are coming to our village with many Bibles. They will accept farm produce for a Bible if you are not able to pay for one."

Moon was very happy and exclaimed, "Now my chance to get a Bible has come. I will make a straw rope to buy my Bible."

He ran home as fast as he could and began to make a straw rope. Every day from early morning until late at night, Moon worked at his task. By the time the 'Biblemen' reached his village, he had made 455 feet of rope.

It was a large load for Moon, but he carried and dragged the rope to the 'Biblemen' who gave him a beautiful New Testament in exchange. Tears of joy ran down Moon's cheeks as he pressed his precious Book to his heart.
