The Baptist attempt to form a church of only saved believers based upon believers' baptism divides the unity of God's church and covenant throughout Scripture, as shown in the chart above. It not only contradicts the reality of the Old Testament church forms of administration, but it also conflicts with several New Testament references that refer to an outward, in distinction from an inward, relationship to God's church and covenant (see references in the last section of this chapter). Finally, this attempt also forces men into the unscriptural practice of judging the conversion and testimonies of others when accepting or rejecting persons for church membership.
