1. What do we baptize with?
With water.
2. Should the water for baptism be mixed with something else?
No; only pure, unmixed water should be used.
3. What is signified by the water in baptism?
The blood and the Spirit of Christ.
4. How should the water be applied?
By dipping in, or sprinkling.
5. What does dipping in, or sprinkling with water signify?
The washing away of sin by the blood and Spirit of Christ.
6. What benefits are sealed by baptism?
(1) Justification by the blood of Christ, and (2) sanctification by His Spirit.
7. Can water itself wash away sin?
No. "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sins" (1 John 1:7).
8. In whose Name must baptism be administered?
We must be baptized in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost (Mt. 28:19).
9. May anyone baptize in time of need?
No, only those who are sent to teach. "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing
them" (Mt. 28:19).
10. May infants be baptized?
Yes. "The promise is to you and to your children" (Acts 2:29).
11. Is baptism necessary?
Yes, because Christ commanded it.
12. Does salvation depend on baptism?
No, God never connects His grace with a sacrament.
13. How often should we be baptized?
Only once, for baptism is a sacrament which symbolizes being born and incorporated into
the church which can only happen once.
14. What must those who are baptized do?
They must continually examine themselves whether they have recommended themselves to
the Triune God with their whole hearts.
