God not only created the earth and its creatures, but He also created heaven with its inhabitants. The host of heavenly creatures are called "angels." The Greek word for "angel" (angelos) means 46messenger" or " ambassador." Angels are also called by the following names in Scripture:

Angels

1. Sons of God

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

- Job 1:6

2. Morning stars

When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

- Job 38:7

3. Watchers

I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and behold, a watcher and an holy one came down from heaven.

- Daniel 4:13

4. Spirits

Who maketh His angels spirits; His ministers a flaming fire.

- Psalm 104:4

5. Ministers

Bless ye the LORD, all ye His hosts; ye ministers of His, that do His pleasure.

- Psalm 103:21

Angels are spiritual beings. The nature of angels differs from that of mankind, for man is both spiritual and physical, having both a soul and body. Angels are purely spiritual.

Scripture informs us that angels are holy, rational beings, with personal understandings and wills, possessing great intelligence and power.

While angels are very intelligent and powerful, they are not allknowing nor all-powerful. Angels are creatures, created by God; they are not God. Therefore we may not worship, or pray to, angels.

Thus the heavens and earth were finished, and all the host of them.

- Genesis 2:1

For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.

- Colossians 1:16

Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of My Father which is in heaven.

- Matthew 18:10

To fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth.

- II Samuel 14:20

Bless the LORD, ye His angels, that excel in strength, that do His commandments, hearkening unto the voice of His word.

- Psalm 103:20

Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

- Hebrews 1:14

Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself: handle Me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see Me have.

- Luke 24:39

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but My Father only.

- Matthew 24:36
