God entered into a covenant, an intimate, personal relationship and binding agreement, with Adam in Paradise. This covenant is called the Covenant of Works, as the continuation of this relation5hip depended upon Adam's works of willful obedience or disobedience.

The Covenant of Works included a condition or test, a promise upon obedience, and a penalty for disobedience, as presented below:

And the woman said unto the serpent, we may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

But they like men have transgressed the covenant: there have they dealt treacherously against me.

- Hosea 6:7

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of One the free gift came upon all men Unto justification of life.

For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous.

For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

In Paradise, how did the Tree of Life testify of God's prornise, and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, of God's test?
