the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made righteous" (Romans 5:12,19).

2. The scriptural references to God's establishing His covenant with the elect speak of God's personal application of His covenant truths to their hearts. This is only possible through Christ their second Covenant Head, for outside of Christ God is a consuming fire. "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put My laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to Me a people" (Hebrews 8:10). "Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant" (Hebrews 13:20).

3. References to the personal inclusion of the elect in the covenant always speak of God's gracious, one-sided work which is based upon Christ's merits as Covenant Head. Notice that each of the texts quoted in the previous sections under Reason I testifies of God's one-sided work, speaking of "I will make," or "I sware," or "I entered" when referring to the Covenant of Grace.

In Reply to Reason 2 -

The scriptural reasons for not using the verses which speak of "conditions" or "requirements" to be met by the saved as a basis for establishing a new covenant were explained previously in this chapter, in the section which deals with the "requirements or conditions of the Covenant of Grace." In summary, all the "conditions" to be met by God's children are gracious benefits freely given to them through Christ their Covenant Head. No sinner could ever produce any acts of faith, repentance, or obedience from himself.

For the previous reasons, Scripture does not testify of three covenants when speaking of man's salvation. On the contrary, we believe that God's Word teaches a two-covenant view, for the following reasons:

For by grace are ye save~ through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Not of works, lest any man should boast.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we I should walk in them.

- Ephesians 2:8-10

Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

- Romans 11:5-6

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

- Ezekiel 36:26

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of .-egeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

- Titus 3:5
