The Natures Of Jesus Christ

The Lord Jesus Christ is both God and man in one sinless Person. As God, He always had a divine nature. Through His birth on earth, He also took upon Himself a human nature - both body and soul.

God reveals Jesus' divine nature in numerous references throughout Scripture. These can be grouped under the following two headings:

1. References which ascribe divine names, attributes, works, and honors to the Lord Jesus

2. References of personal testimony to Jesus being divine

Examples of various scriptural references under these two headings are provided in the following charts:

Jesus Christ Is Divine
for the Bible ascribes to Him:

1. DIVINE NAMES - Names that can only be given to God

a. For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.

- Isaiah 9:6

c. In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is His name whereby He shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

- Jeremiah 23:6

b. Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with US.

- Matthew 1:23

d. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

- John 1:1

2. DIVINE ATTRIBUTES - Attributes of God alone

a. Omnimpresent

For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them.

- Matthew 18:20
