Peter was deeply troubled by the frequent misuse of God's Name, especially that of the Lord Jesus, by two of the men he worked with at a gas station after school. Peter liked his work, but hated the profanity he heard. The men were much older than he was, and he didn't know how to answer them. He was afraid of trying to warn them.

One afternoon, their swearing was unbearable. Peter spoke out before he realized it and said, "Mr. Meyer, I know you love and think much of your wife. How would you feel if I used her name in a joking way or when I was angry?"

Mr. Meyer stared in silence at Peter. "That's how I feel when you misuse the name of Jesus Christ," Peter explained. "His name is most precious to me."

Peter's earnestness, honesty, and politeness made an impression upon Mr. Meyer. "Sorry, Pete," he responded. "I'll try to watch it."

Those who love God, love His Names. Do you? Are you willing to sacrifice your own name and honor for Christ's?
