The study of Christ's second advent should be more than just an intellectual exercise. With the Spirit's blessing, it can produce the following two major results:

1. Unbelievers should be filled with fear and a sense of urgency to repent and seek for reconciliation with God.

2. Believers should be comforted and stimulated to renew their zeal of service to God and His will.

The following stories illustrate these two truths:

A prospecting party penetrated far into the Klondyke area in search of gold. In a very remote area, they stumbled upon a miner's hut. Entering the cabin, they found two dead bodies and a large quantity of gold. On a table was an account book of each date and the increasing amount of gold they had collected.

After surveying the rest of the cabin and examining the log book, it became clear to the prospecting party what had happened. In their excitement of gathering increasing amounts of gold, the two miners had forgotten about the approaching winter.

A severe snowstorm fell in early October and the men were trapped in their cabin. To try to hike back to civilization through the snow would be impossible. Soon their small supply of food was gone and they starved to death in the middle of all their gold!
