speak about the heavens and earth being changed (Hebrews 1:12), and the restitution (restoration) of all things (Acts 3:21). II Peter 3 compares the destruction of the pre-flood world by water to the destruction of the present world by fire (II Peter 3:6-7). This destruction was a total destruction of sinful mankind, his works, and the entire face of the earth. However, it was not a total annihilation of God's created earth.

The fulfillment of biblical prophecy regarding the saints' reigning and living in peace on this earth -The complete fulfillment of the scriptural prophecies regarding perfect peace on earth can best be understood as taking place on a renewed earth. Some examples of this type of prophecy would include: "But the meek shall inherit the earth" (Psalm 37:11), or as Jesus restated it, "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth" (Matthew 5:5); "For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith" (Romans 4:13); "And has made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth" (Revelation 5:10); "The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice's den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah 11:6-9). When commenting on Romans 8:21-22, John Calvin wrote the following:

He shows how the creature has been made subject to vanity in hope. But the time will come when it will one day be delivered, as Isaiah testifies and Peter still more clearly confirms.
We may, it is true, infer from this how dreadful is the curse which we have deserved, since all innocent creatures from earth to heaven are punished for our sins. It is our fault that they struggle in corruption. The condemnation of the human race is thus imprinted on the heavens, the earth, and all creatures. Again, this passage shows us to how great an excellence of glory the sons of God are to be exalted, and all creatures shall be renewed to magnify it and declare its splendour.
Paul does not mean that all creatures will be partakers of the same glory with the sons of God, but that they will share in their own manner in the better state, because God will restore the present fallen world to perfect condition at the same time as the human race.
