AN AMILLENNIAL EXPLANAllON OF REVELATION 20:1-15 (continued)

Scripture Text

Amillennial Explanation

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them

-Revelation 20:4-9

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the Book of Life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
And death and hell were cast into the lake of life. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

-Revelation 20:1a-15

The "dead" saints are spiritually alive in heaven, living with Christ. This is termed "the fIrst resurrection" -their spiritual resurrection. The rest of the "dead," the unsaved, live not. They are spiritually dead -existing apart from God in hell.
The second resurrection refers to the physical, not spiritual, resurrection -the resurrection of one's body, not the soul. The second death means the sending of soul and body to hell. Those who have part in the "first (spiritual) resurrection," whose souls are in heaven, need not fear the second death, being sent to hell with soul and body after their physical resurrection. The second death shall have no power over those that have part in the first resurrection.
At the close of the fullness of time, "when the thousand years are expired," Satan shall again be able to deceive the nations and return them to the darkness of heathendom -the ignorance of God's Word and gospel. A great spiritual battle shall take place in which the heathen shall persecute and seek to destroy the saints on earth. This battle shall be intense for the minds and hearts of people, for Satan will know that his time is short.

When it appears that the kingdom of Satan has defeated the kingdom of Christ in the great battle for the souls of men, Christ shall physically return on the clouds of heaven.
Satan and his fallen angels shall be cast into hell forever. All people who ever lived shall arise from their graves and stand before Christ's great white throne, to be judged from the books of God's remembrance, conscience, and God's law, but also from the Book of Life in which all the names of God's elect are recorded as having their entire debts paid in full by their Savior.
Whosoever was not written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire, into hell with body and soul, which is the second death.

How do the following events testify of Satan's being bound and his ability to deceive Gentile nations?

  • Christ's mission command

  • Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, 10, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

    -Matthew 28:19-20

  • Christ's final words of instruction to His apostles

  • But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

    -Acts 1:8

  • The outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost

  • And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

    -Acts 2:4, 7-8
